In true Foster Mom R Fashion, Hubby and I started the program on December 19th, the week of Christmas. The worst possible timing. The Doc was like - no time like the present and we were like, okay? Okay.
Now of course we don't just have 1 Christmas celebration. We have 4. So we needed some help navigating that. We began the program on the Phase 1 diet where you eat nothing but the OPTIFAST® Meal Replacements meals, 5-6 times a day. There are shakes, bars, and soups and together the 5 meals total 800 calories, 16 grams of protein, and 90 grams of carbs.
Doc walked us through modifying Phase 1 where you eat the Optifast Replacement meals. We were to eat 3 of the replacements and then watch our carb, portion, and calorie intake for the 4th meal on the days we had celebrations. Skipping the 5th if we were still full.
Those first 2 days were HARD. Hubby and I were hungry. I also eat when I'm bored or can't sleep and so the urge to munch was strong. We were told we were breaking up with food - and its been the best break-up ever. I like not having to think about food, or feel guilty about food. I can cook something for the kids and finish my meal before they do! (Mamas raise your hand if you never get to eat hot food because you are the last to sit down!) We worked from home the first few days just in case our bodies didn't adjust. On the 3rd day, I went in to the office because there was less temptation there.
By the end of the 1st week, I had broken my Diet Coke addiction. I was drinking at least 64 ounces of water, if not more and I had this extra energy. The energy part was enough to keep me going but then I weighed in. I lost 7 lbs.
The weekly weigh ins are good. They keep you honest and since I had a major win, it was easy for me to walk into the office to a counter full of goodies and walk right on past.
